CEPAL (ECLAC). Aquaculture production

Dataset available for Latin-American and Caribbean Countries since 1950-2016

This indicator provides information on the volume of total aquaculture production, which includes aquaculture in fresh water and seawater.

Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic organisms including fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants. Farming implies some form of intervention in the process to enhance production - among others, food and protection against predators - and individual or collective ownership of the exploited stock. The volume of total aquaculture production covers freshwater aquaculture and marine aquaculture. The data is measured in tonnes and retrieved from FAO.

CEPAL (ECLAC). Fish extraction and Fish extraction by type of fish

Dataset available for Latin-American and Caribbean Countries since 1950-2016

These indicators provides information on the total catch of the following species: crustaceans, molluscs, freshwater and marine fish and aquatic plants among the principal species. Both in inland waters and seawaters. The data is measured in tonnes and retrieved from FAO.

FAO. Global Aquaculture Production

Dataset available for all World Countries since 1950-2017

The annual series of aquaculture production begin in 1950 for the quantities and in 1984 for the values. Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic organisms including fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants. Farming implies some form of intervention in the rearing process to enhance production, such as regular stocking, feeding, protection from predators, etc. Farming also implies individual or corporate ownership of the stock being cultivated.

Production of fish, crustaceans and molluscs is expressed in live weight, that is the nominal weight of the aquatic organisms at the time of capture. The harvest of aquatic plants is given in wet weight. Quantities are given in tonnes (=1000 kg). The value of aquaculture, converted from local currencies, is reported in 1000 US dollars using appropriate exchange rates.

FAO. Global Capture Production

Dataset available for all World Countries since 1950-2017

The annual series of capture production begin in 1950. Data relate to nominal catch of fish, crustaceans and molluscs, the production of other aquatic animals, residues and plants and catches of aquatic mammals, taken for commercial, industrial, recreational and subsistence purposes from inland, brackish and marine waters.

Data include all quantities caught and landed for both food and feed purposes but exclude discards. Catches of fish, crustaceans and molluscs are expressed in live weight, that is the nominal weight of the aquatic organisms at the time of capture. The harvest of aquatic plants is given in wet weight. Data are given in tonnes (=1000 kg), except those for whales, seals and crocodiles, which are given in numbers.

Data relate to nominal catch of fish, crustaceans and mollusks, the production of other aquatic animals, residues and plants and catches of aquatic mammals, taken for commercial, industrial, recreational and subsistence purposes from inland, brackish and marine waters. The harvest from mariculture, aquaculture and other kinds of fish farming is also included.
