COVID-19 has had an unprecedented impact on our daily lives on a planetary scale. Economic recovery is an immediate challenge, as well as knowing what new medium and long-term scenarios this pandemic will draw. But there is a high degree of uncertainty regarding these future perspectives and scenarios as a result of the pandemic exceptionality and the necessary consideration of social, health, economic, environmental factors, among others.
The “Mediterranean transport and logistics in a post-COVID 19 era: prospects and opportunities” initiative, led by Centre for Western Mediterranean Transportation Studies (CETMO) and European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), is born as an ambitious project to generate and discuss knowledge to contribute to the identification of these scenarios in the transport and logistics sector, in the Mediterranean area.
More specifically, the initiative “Mediterranean transport and logistics in the post-COVID-19 era: Perspectives and opportunities” calls upon experts from different professional backgrounds and Mediterranean countries and regional and international institutions to discuss possible post-Covid-19 scenarios for the Transport and Logistics Sector in the Mediterranean, through thematic articles. By gathering multiple insights and critical perspectives, the initiative aims at considering different approaches and involving different concerned actors for the promotion of future regional strategies and cooperation opportunities.
In conclusion, this initiative is conceived as a tool to support the Mediterranean transport and logistics sector to facilitate a mid and long term adaptation to the post-COVID-19 era, from the construction of a regional collective intelligence adapted to the new reality fruit of the collaboration between the experts of the region.
The aim is to build a regional collective knowledge through short articles written by experts and reference organizations that allows us to be active players in building the future of the region. These contributions and their discussion will allow us to reflect on the scenarios, describe them, define priorities and identify opportunities for cooperation to bring it to fruition.
In conclusion, the main objectives of the “Mediterranean transport and logistics in a post-COVID 19 era: prospects and opportunities” are as follows:
- To contribute to the building of a collective intelligence on the post-COVID-19 scenario for the transport and logistics sector in the Mediterranean, as well as on the opportunities that it may generate.
- To visualize a Mediterranean reality in the adaptation to the post-COVID-19 scenario that helps to identify regional measures and strategies in the transport and logistics sector.
The “Mediterranean transport and logistics in a post-COVID 19 era: prospects and opportunities” initiative is led by Centre for Western Mediterranean Transportation Studies (CETMO) and European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed). Several remarkable organisations of the region play an important role in this initiative.
